Why I Created TREVBI
I created TREVBI because I know firsthand how confusing and overwhelming it can be to navigate food and nutrition. Growing up, our kitchen wasn’t exactly a model of healthy eating. My mom wasn’t a big cook, and like so many, she didn’t realize how much our food choices shaped our health. Our kitchen was filled with packaged snacks—Oreos, Doritos, Yodels—and our dinners often consisted of spaghetti or pizza. My mother did make an incredible meatloaf, but beyond that, my sister and I had to learn our way around the kitchen on our own.
As I got older, I discovered the power of whole foods, organics, and reading labels. In my twenties, I realized that food had the power to shape our health, for better or worse. I watched my father struggle with this. Addicted to Devil Dogs and junk food, he had terrible eating habits. His health suffered, and he was in and out of hospitals my whole life. I used to fight with him to stop eating the garbage he loved so much. He died in my arms when I was only 38 years old. I truly was blessed for the years I had him—he was my best friend—but deep down, I knew that if he had eaten better, he could have lived longer.
Over the years, I tried my best to share this knowledge with my daughter, Charley. When she was off to college, Charley, mom, and I caravanned up to Tallahassee to move her in and get her room set up. It was an exciting time for us, but as a mother, I couldn’t help but worry. I did my best to teach her the importance of eating healthy, organic, and making better food choices. I begged her to be mindful of what she ate while away at school. Little did I know how much that lesson would mean to us in the weeks to come.
Then, our world changed. My beautiful, generous, and fun-loving mother was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. While she fought with everything she had, I desperately tried to help her see the importance of nutrition. I made her healthy snacks, explained how food could be medicine, and begged her to completely avoid sugar. But she wouldn’t listen. After chemo, she wanted McDonald’s ice cream. I couldn’t bring myself to pull into a drive-thru, so I’d find other ways to make her happy—like taking her shopping, our favorite pastime.
During one of our lunches together, my mom spotted Joe—1,150 miles from where we grew up. It was one of those surreal, meant-to-be moments. Joe quickly became an incredible source of support, not just during my mom’s battle with cancer, but also after we lost her. I thank my mom in heaven every day for reconnecting us. Now married, Joe and I share so many of the same passions—traveling, experiencing incredible food from different cultures, and creating organic meals together at home.
Losing both of my parents changed me. It made me realize that most people aren’t ignoring nutrition because they don’t care—they just don’t know where to start. That’s why I created TREVBI—to make it easier. To take the guesswork out of food labels. To help people understand what’s actually in their food so they can make informed decisions—quickly and confidently.
Because everyone deserves to know what they’re putting into their bodies. Everyone deserves Transparency in Every Bite.
